As a communications specialist for the Office of Development at The University of Texas at San Antonio, I am responsible for sharing the stories from some of our brightest students and incredible faculty. Here are just a few stories that I have written as well as provided photography for. All content has been produced for UTSA and published on their website, social media channels, emails, letters and newsletters.
Funny man on campus explores the art of improv
 

It’s a Friday night, and in a small room located in the basement of a burger joint you’ll find Brennan Loy, a UTSA student working the mic with the comedy troupe, Alamo City Improv.

With a graceful hand, Cleo Miele motions the bow of her violin against the strings of the instrument. What comes out is a beautiful, perfectly tuned melody– a sound the talented musician has been perfecting since age 10.

Dr. Gelo dedicated to preserving Native American history
 

For over thirty years, Dr. Daniel Gelo has studied the culture and community of the Native American people. Gelo, Dean in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts at UTSA, is one of the most sought after Indian experts in the country. He has slept in their homes, eaten at their tables and even participated in some of their most sacred ritual ceremonies.

Kathy Acock

Construction trail-blazer is supporting a new generation of industry leaders
 

The year was 1969. Rock-n-roll fans flocked to Woodstock, the first man landed on the moon, and—in Houston, Texas—Gordon Kovich and his wife Viola founded Alpha Building Corporation. Today the business, whose repertoire includes work for the U.S. military, NASA and The University of Texas at San Antonio, is led by their daughter Kathleen Acock, who now serves as CEO. It is a full-fledged corporation with 15 offices across Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Kansas.

Dan Parman, longtime UTSA supporter and visionary behind master-planned San Antonio community Stone Oak passed away at his home April 9, from natural causes. He was 81.
